    Both are **dynamic**: they describe whichever document the row's two
    dropdowns currently select, because once a row is a booking rather than a
    document there is no other honest reading of the columns. The server renders
    the opening state (the main customer's first document, or the em-dash) and
    public/assets/js/nrems-customer-document-list.js replaces the text through
    `textContent` on every change.

    The `data-role` marker is how the module finds this node inside a row
    DataTables redraws on every sort, page and filter. It is a span rather than
    the `<td>` itself because yajra's Column API writes the cell element and
    gives no way to put an attribute on it — and a marker the module cannot rely
    on is a marker that silently stops matching.

    Rendered through rawColumns(), so this output is injected unescaped; the
    value goes out through `{{ }}` and the creator name is the one genuinely
    user-supplied string among them.

    Params:
        role   the data-role the client module looks for ('cd-date' / 'cd-by')
        value  the text for the opening state, already formatted server-side
               (dates through config('nrems.date_format'), blanks as the em-dash)
